Objective
To provide theoretical and practical elements within the healthcare environment so that, in collaboration with the healthcare team, medications may be used safely, cost-effectively, and with quality standards, in support of health promotion and disease prevention programs.

Likewise, the program seeks to collaborate with the healthcare team in the design of intervention models, techniques, and strategies for the implementation of services and programs within the pharmaceutical profession.

Additionally, it aims to contribute to the development of multidisciplinary programs focused on the treatment of highly prevalent diseases. Students will also learn methods for effective communication with patients and other healthcare professionals.


Admission Requirements

  • Present a degree in Pharmaceutical Biological Chemistry, Pharmacy, or another bachelor’s degree related to the health sciences, a professional license, or, in the case of UNAM graduates, proof of completion of 100% of undergraduate credits or the professional examination certificate.
  • Pass the general prior knowledge examination.
  • Pass the skills and aptitude examination.
  • Pass an English reading comprehension examination through a certificate issued by the UNAM Center for Foreign Language Teaching (CELE) or the language center of any other UNAM academic entity.
  • Foreign students must provide proof of legal residence in the country and, if Spanish is not their native language, submit the original certificate of the Spanish Language Proficiency Examination issued by the UNAM Center for Teaching Foreigners (CEPE), demonstrating at least Level A proficiency, corresponding to 851–1000 points. In exceptional cases, Level B, corresponding to 701–850 points, may be accepted.
  • Participate in a personal interview according to the procedures established by the Academic Committee.
  • Obtain a letter of acceptance issued by the Academic Committee.
  • Students wishing to obtain their undergraduate degree through graduate studies must have completed 100% of their undergraduate courses and credits, hold the minimum GPA established by the Academic Committee, and be regular undergraduate students during the academic term.
  • If deemed necessary by the Academic Committee, applicants may be required to complete a preparatory course, especially if their undergraduate degree is not in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Biological Chemistry.
  • Fulfill all requirements and procedures established in the Program’s Operating Regulations.


Continuation Requirements
The specialization program has a maximum duration of:

  • Two semesters for full-time students
  • Three semesters for part-time students
Within this period, students must successfully complete the academic activities established in the curriculum.


Graduation Requirements
Students must complete and pass 100% of the credits and all academic activities established in the curriculum within the deadlines set by the applicable regulations.


Requirements for Obtaining the Degree
To obtain the Specialist degree, students must comply with the requirements established in the General Regulations for Graduate Studies and the Program’s Operating Regulations, including completion and approval of 100% of academic activities.

Students must also choose and complete one of the following graduation modalities:

  • Monograph with oral presentation and defense
  • Professional work report, provided that professional experience in hospital pharmacy or compounding centers is demonstrated
  • General Knowledge Examination
UNAM graduates who entered the specialization program with 100% of undergraduate credits or a professional examination certificate must obtain their undergraduate degree prior to receiving the Specialist degree.
