Program Objective
The purpose of the Master’s Degree is to train highly qualified professionals with solid academic preparation in Chemical Sciences, capable of performing successfully in professional life due to the specialized training acquired through a combination of theoretical academic activities and experimental research work carried out under the supervision of highly prestigious advisors.
Admission Profile
Applicants to the UNAM Master’s Program in Chemical Sciences must be professionals with adequate training in chemistry, familiar with the scientific study of matter, its structure, properties, transformations, and relationships with energy. Duration of Studies and Total Credits
The duration of the curriculum is four semesters, during which full-time students must complete a total of 84 credits and present the degree examination. For part-time students, the maximum duration of studies is six semesters, including the degree examination.

Admission Requirements
Applicants seeking admission must:
- Have completed 100% of the credits of an undergraduate degree in any chemistry specialty or a chemistry-related field.
- Pass the general knowledge examination and complete an evaluation of skills and aptitudes, as well as a personal interview conducted according to the procedures established by the Academic Committee. If accepted, the Academic Committee will issue the admission approval, which will remain valid for enrollment purposes for four consecutive academic semesters. Applicants will have a maximum of two opportunities to pass the admission process, after which they may no longer apply to the Program.
- Dedicate themselves full-time to the Program.
- Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 7.0 on a scale from 0 to 10.
- In the case of applicants from foreign institutions, provide GPA equivalency issued by the General Directorate for Incorporation and Revalidation of Studies, DGIRE, UNAM.
- Applicants of non-Mexican nationality must provide a notarized copy of proof of legal residency, immigration document, with the appropriate status to pursue studies in the Program. They must also submit a birth certificate, academic transcript with GPA, and undergraduate degree certificate apostilled or legalized by the corresponding Mexican Embassy.
- Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of Spanish when it is not the applicant’s native language, prior to the admission examination, through a certificate issued by the Center for Teaching Foreigners, CEPE, of UNAM.
Requirements for Obtaining the Degree
To obtain the Master of Science degree, students must:
- Complete 100% of the credits and all academic activities established in the curriculum.
- Fulfill all admission and continuation requirements.
- Choose one of the graduation modalities and pass the degree examination.
